Art Walk Tip

Reminder: Wallingford Art Walk is tonight, 6 – 9 pm all over Wallingford. Check out the map of participating businesses from the Wallingford Art Walk web site.

If you’re wondering where the cool art is, here’s one that looks interesting: David McCrae will be showing work from his From A Scanner, Darkly series at the offices of the naturopath Amy Wells at 4426 Burke Ave N. From David’s web site:

I am both a research scientist, working in metropolitan Seattle, and a photographer, residing in the Bay Area. The miracles of modern technology allow me to commute between both locations while pursuing these two distinct avenues of creative expression.

The history of photography is replete with examples of image capture without a camera. My current work, the series ‘From a Scanner, Darkly,’ began when I had no time to work with film. Instead, a scanner and a computer became my substitute for photosensitive materials and a darkroom. I now use both analog and digital image capture, with, and without camera and lens. Images are printed digitally with pigment inks on archival paper. […]

Day by day, I find the world to be a truly amazing place. These images are my attempt to communicate that feeling.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
