Burgled!

  • Post author:

Oh dear, another reason for my mother to fret, and just days before Mother’s Day, no less. This note went out yesterday to concerned neighbors:

[M and N] on the corner of 43 and Sunnyside were burgled last night between midnight and 3:AM.  They used a key that was hidden near the door and took money, keys, etc and his pickup truck.  [M] may have interrupted them when he got up around 3.  If you have an alarm ,  it might be a good idea to have it on when you sleep.  We were burgled while we were sleeping  about 16 years ago and have used the alarm most of the time since.   I heard of another burglary  while victims were sleeping in the Green  Lake area recently.

Mom, my Mother’s Day present to you will be to let you tell me I ought to buy a burglar alarm without sighing loudly into the phone.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Keep a key “hidden” near your door?  No alarm system can make up for that bad idea.
