Wading Pool to open June 26

  • Post author:

Last week, we reported that, despite concerns that the Wallingford wading pool might be closed due to city budget cuts, we had spoken with the Seattle Department of Aquatics, and the pool would, in fact, open this summer (although many other neighborhood pools would not be so lucky). Several days later, another local blog reported that contrary to what we had said, the Wallingford pool was, in fact, still on the chopping block.

Obviously, some readers were confused, as were we.

Rest easy: we got the word again today directly from Bill Dougherty, Senior Coordinator for the Seattle Department of Aquatics, that the Wallingford wading pool at Wallingford Park is still scheduled to open on Saturday, June 26th and will remain open until September 6th, 7 days a week from 12 – 7 pm.

We recognize that things may change, but we’re being told that there are no plans at the moment to close the Wallingford pool.

This leaves you to ponder a) what you will wear and b) proper wading pool etiquette.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
