Swap Your Car

  • Post author:

Continuing our “dump” theme of the day, we got a note from the Tour de Fat organizers noting that they are still looking for a someone to volunteer to give up their car for this weekend’s event:

For the fourth year in a row, Tour de Fat is looking for volunteers to accept the swapper challenge. One volunteer in each city will give up their car and receive a hand-built Black Sheep commuter bike. The volunteer is chosen after submitting a video or essay describing their desire to live sans-car for a year. To submit an application, log on to http://www.newbelgium.com/tour-de-fat. A swapper is still needed in Seattle!

Come on, Wallingford, who’s into swapping?

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

I gave up my car in 2003 and bought a bicycle and everything I might need for that bike including paniers, a GREAT light, rain gear, a good lock….. The very best part of my life is not owning a car. Go for it!

I was reading Wallyhood blog and saw the challenge. So I stepped up to the plate.
Wrote a note and was choosen for the Swap my ride. Many thoughts went on in my
head but most of all joy. I will ride with purpose and pride. I do love a good swap.
