The 520 Rebuild, Carbon, and Wallingford

  • Post author:

The Wallingford Community Council meets this Wednesday from 7 to 9 in room 202 of the Good Shepherd Center. This month we’re focusing on regional transportation issues and we hope you will join us.

We’ll start with a 520 presentation from Ethan Bancroft with the SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program. As the bridge is going from 4 lanes to 6 Wallingford will gain some traffic from the rebuild, as you can see here:
Issues to cover with Ethan include…
  • What elements of the plan are still open to influence at this time?
  • Will 2 bus transfers still be required to get from Wallingford to other side of the 520 bridge?
  • How do we pursue mitigations to manage the traffic impacts on Wallingford’s already saturated East / West arterials?
  • Will congestion tolling be configured to prevent backups and to promote carpooling, transit, and commerce?
We will then cover Seattle’s carbon neutrality initiative with a presentation and discussion from Cathy Tuttle, including:
  • What does “carbon neutral” mean in Wallingford?
  • How would jobs, businesses, and activities change if the neighborhood used less fossil fuel?
  • What would houses, schools, streets, and gardens look like?
  • What services would the City be able to offer?
See you on Wednesday!

Eric

I've lived here since 1998. I spent 13 years at Microsoft as a developer and manager, concurrent with Ballmer's reign. I quit after seeing my third consecutive project cancelled, while my parents needed help, and my wife was getting stressed working at Seattle Public Schools. Since then, I have helped family and community while taking on side projects and volunteer work. I led the renovation of Meridian Playground, helped moderate the South Transfer Station design, helped advance the Green Lake Way road diet, and have guided several transportation and parks projects through neighborhood involvement. I wrote for Wallyhood for a while and was president of the Wallingford Community Council during the great recession, where thankfully, land use was not an issue. I'm an impatient moderate vegetarian who believes in practical win-win solutions.
