do we need a wallingford farmers market ? NO
what’s wrong with qfc ?
I love the farmers’ market. Among other things, I get to talk to the people who grew the food. QFC can’t always even tell me where it was grown, much less by whom!
Are the decision makers considering relocating Farmers Market to the Good Shepard Center? It’s an ideal location, and has some produce already on site. Either the East Side or West Side of the park would work, there’s plenty of space to set up (Tilth does it every year) and plenty of parking along Meridian w/o disrupting businesses. Sure, Historic Seattle will have a fit, but it’s time to take them on and make Good Shepard Center into what a should be — a place for the Wallingford Community.
Having the occasional event at Meridian park is one thing. Having it turned into a place of business is just wrong. For one, there’s NOT plenty of parking. Every time there’s a big event the traffic and parking for several blocks is horrendous. The other issue is why should tax payers subsidize these small businesses property tax? How would Seattle tax payers be payed for this use of this space? If a farmers market is to continue, it needs to be ethically correct.
