Support Businesses to Support Seniors

It seems odd to me to hear seniors being called a “special interest group”.  Because if you think about it, it’s only a matter of time until we all become seniors (if we’re lucky).

Bearing that in mind, the Wallingford Community Senior Center needs your help.  Earlier this year an anonymous donor put up a $25,000 matching grant to help keep the struggling organization going and last I heard they still need $7,000 to get the full amount.

The following businesses have stepped up to help by offering to donate 1%-5% of their sales to the cause on Sunday, December 5th from 10 AM to 6 PM:

In Wallingford Center

  • Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy
  • Fabric Crush
  • Izilla Toys
  • 4 Your Eyes Only Optical
  • Crackerjack Contemporary Crafts
  • Paron’s Closet
  • Trophy Cupcakes & Party
  • Bad Woman Yarn

Wide World Books & Maps, 1911 N 45th St.

Cutz Meridian – (Book Early for Appt.), 4515 Meridian Ave. N.

Not A Number Cards & Gifts, 1905 N 45th St.

The Sock Monster, 1909 N 45th St.

In addition, business have donated goodies for a silent auction in the Wallingford Center from 3 PM – 5 PM and holiday carolers will be performing from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM.  It will be a good chance to support local business who in turn will support the Senior Center.  Direct donations of course are also always welcome.

Mark it on your calendar.  When that fateful day comes around when you too are a senior, you’ll be glad you did.  Think of it as long-term planning.  And see you at the Mahjong table.

Helen has lived in Wallingford for 16 years and think it’s the best neighborhood in Seattle, possibly the world. She has worn a track between her house, QFC and the library and spends a lot time poking her nose into things. She is a mother, does volunteer work and is interested in local, green and child-related issues. She has an advanced degree in English literature and thus reads a lot and enjoys the craft of writing. She also works part-time for her husband’s software company (doesn’t everyone have a software company around here?).
