New Show at Oasis

The Oasis Art Gallery (3644 Wallingford Ave. N) has a one day show this Sunday, November 7th, 3 – 6 pm, featuring the work of 5 talented youth from the area. Colleen Lambert explains:

This year’s event features works that show the girls’ diversity, both in their own heritage and their ever-widening view of the world. The theme was selected because they have all been fortunate enough to travel more and learn more about other parts of the world. It was left open ended so they could choose from many options – a place they dream of going, a place they have been, a place their ancestors were from, or any place to which they were drawn. Each student was also instructed to paint one piece entitled ‘self-portrait’ which provides a wonderful insight into how these young women see themselves as artists and individuals.

The pieces really do look remarkable. Here are two from Anahit Hovhannisyan and Mariam Hovhannisyan, respectively.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
