Splendor in November

I sincerely wish I knew more about trees to identify these.  Readers, could you help?

A final blaze of light before the darkness settles in . . .

Sunflower thrown in for good measure.

Helen has lived in Wallingford for 16 years and think it’s the best neighborhood in Seattle, possibly the world. She has worn a track between her house, QFC and the library and spends a lot time poking her nose into things. She is a mother, does volunteer work and is interested in local, green and child-related issues. She has an advanced degree in English literature and thus reads a lot and enjoys the craft of writing. She also works part-time for her husband’s software company (doesn’t everyone have a software company around here?).

All three look like maples to me.

I think the top one is a Japanese maple, the middle one a liquidambar and the bottom one likely a maple. Such a beautiful fall!

I heard a good gardening tip for fall color. If you plan to add trees to your yard you should go to the nursery now because then you can see what color those tress will be next fall. If you plant in spring you are taking your chances!

The one noone identified is a sunflower! 🙂

Seriously, this fall has had the most beautiful fall color I can remember.in Seattle. Maybe it’s payback for what a crappy summer we had?
