Local Artists House Shows

What, the Bizarre Bazaar at OmCulture this Saturday isn’t enough for you? You’re afraid that you may still have to go to Best Buy and Wal*Mart to fill out your holiday shopping list?

OK, folks, relax, here’s two, count them, two more opportunities to fill those stockings with art handcrafted by your neighbors:

First, Paul Lewing, Gay Jensen, and Laurie Mortinson Lefebvres will be showing and selling their work from Paul’s home at 4315 Burke Avenue N this Friday, Dec, 3 from 5 – 9pm or Saturday / Sunday from 10 am – 5 pm, as they have every year for the past 25 years.

Yep, you read right: for 25 years now, these artists have been offering their work to their neighbors not in a store, not in a gallery, but from Paul’s very comfortable living room. After we wandered in last year, we wrote:

Paul is an accomplished tile worker and painter, Laurie’s jewelry is eye-catching, elegant and unique and Gay’s woven scarves and textiles are vibrant and smart. They’ve been holding their sale annually in the same house since 1986, but don’t wait until next year to catch it. Also worth mentioning is that the spread of munchies was the best and most varied of the lot.

Second, Diana Aurigemma is having a sale December 3rd 5pm – 9pm and Sat 4th 10 am – 5 pm at her home at 4331 Burke Ave N. Folks, that’s the same block as the sale above at the same time.

So stop in. Even if you don’t find something you like, you’re sure to get a good conversation with a neighbor.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
