Double Rainbow

Jordan December 31, 2011 2 Comments

Wallingford got its own double rainbow on Friday. Luna wrote:

Oh how I wish I had a better camera to catch the DOUBLE rainbow over Wallingford this afternoon around 3pm!

Not only were there two rainbows – the “main” one even had dark lavender as the bottom layer.  Here are the photos I managed to get.  In #28, you can vaguely see the second rainbow on the right edge and in #30 you can almost see the extra stripes of color.

More Mural

Jordan December 31, 2011 2 Comments

Hoodette writes:

I was wondering if anyone knows what is going on with the Golden Oldies mural. Margaret posted an article about the repainting in late August. Now it appears that the mural has been half-way painted over.

A scouting trip revealed that yes, indeed, it has been mostly whited over. We popped our head in to get the 411 and were told not to fear, it’s not going away, just being repainted. The owner wasn’t around, but the man behind the counter told us that they felt that the new mural, despite being painted by the same artist as …

Brumal

Didja notice that the Word of the Week is back up on Thackery and 44th?

This week’s word, brumal, is timely, too, even if it doesn’t feel that way.

Anyone who’s been by the Upper Wallingford Word of the Week lately want to let us know what treat waits for the word nerd on 47th Ave NE?

‘Celebrate One Wallingford’ a great success

Margaret December 30, 2011 1 Comment

On December 15, “Celebrate One Wallingford,” brought 120 people to the Wallingford Community Senior Center (WCSC) for a night of neighbors mingling with one another while enjoying tasty food, drinks, and loads of holiday cheer. The gathering was great fun for all ages and embodied true community spirit and proof that the center reaches out to more than just seniors. In case you missed it, here are some of the party’s highlights: Mary Heim organized the very fun “Make your own Snowman/Snowflake” craft station. Volunteers baked over 200 delectable sugar cookies for the ever-popular cookie decorating station. Wallingford’s Green Carolers…

Kirchoff Fitness

Margaret December 29, 2011 Comments are off

Wallyhood welcomes Kirchoff Fitness to our family of sponsors. Kirchoff Fitness is run by Chris Kirchoff, a fitness coach and lifelong dedicated athlete who left behind her public high school teaching career to help motivate people to become fitter by designing individual programs tailored to their specific goals. She’s received some great praise from men and women who have enjoyed training with Chris. Have a look.

In addition to one-on-one training, Kirchoff has four-week 5:30am outdoor group bootcamps that not only inspire, but are actually fun! During her last bootcamp session, Chris concocted a “dream workout” (she literally dreamt it) …

Cat foster families needed

Margaret December 28, 2011 7 Comments

If you’re thinking about adopting a cat in the new year, then you simply must read this very sweet note we received from Miss Margie’s 2nd grade class at John Stanford International School:

Dear Cat Lovers,

We are Miss Margie’s 2nd grade class at John Stanford International School in Seattle. There is a cat rescue group that we are working with to help. They go all over the northwest and find cats at shelters that are going to be put to sleep forever and rescue them.

Do you want to be a cat foster family to a cat that has …
