Fruit Boom

On Monday we told you about all the volunteer and internship options at Seattle Tilth, figuring we’d get you in the mood for the impending Spring. Continuing that theme, we bring you a series of classes on improving your gardening acumen. Barb writes:

Would you like your fruit trees to produce more fruit? Do you wonder what’s all the buzz about mason bees? Think it’s time for your fruit trees to join a fruit tree guild?

City Fruit, the city-wide organization to promote care of urban fruit trees, is offering many classes on fruit tree-related topics, many at the nearby Phinney Neighborhood Center. One class, “Permaculture and Orchards,” is taught by two permaculture professionals and members of Wallingford’s own Burke-Gilman Trail Fruit Tree Stewards, Jenny Pell and Jacqueline Cramer. Learn all about “fruit tree guilds” and establish an attractive and effective micro-eco-climate beneath your fruit tree.

All classes are $15 for City Fruit members, $20 for non-members. To more information about the classes and to register, go to the City Fruit classes site. For more information about the Burke-Gilman Trail Fruit Tree Stewards, contact Barb Burrill at  [email protected]

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
