weirdest thing:  a duck couple (not just a couple of ducks, but an obvious couple) were just seen strolling down the sidewalk on our block (known as the Coolest Block in Wallingford, TM!))  then during their stroll they decided to come into the shared doorway of Not A Number and Sock Monster.  after checking us out they conferred, and came into NAN.  we had some Sahale Snacks, which they enjoyed (and didn’t make us feel guilty about feeding ’em), then they decided to stroll on down to Joule, where they hung out in the doorway for a few minutes. i almost called chef Rachel inside to say “don’t get any ideas!”  🙂 then they strolled away into the Chase bank parking lot.

oh, now they’re back!

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Sorry I can’t help, but I do have another duck story. I was recently driving around Greenlake and had to pull to a stop when a duck couple was leisurely crossing the street. The impressive thing was that they were in a striped crosswalk and they totally stayed within the lines all the way across the street. I only wish I’d had the brain to pull out my cell phone to capture it on film.

I think those two hang out around our street. They are quite the social couple.

These are, of course, Mallards; male on the left and female on the right. I’m pretty sure the male is looking at the sign and quacking “duck the po-lice!”

Kudos to the woman who helped a pair of mallards cross Stone Way, near Tutta Bella, last week.

She walked along with them, holding her arms up so that drivers would stop and let the pair pass. (I was delighted to stop and watch the 3 of them make the crossing.)

    Very Robert McCloskey! 🙂

These the same two spotted more recently hanging out in front of the QFC on 45th Street?
