Food Swap Report

We held our first Wallyhood Food Swap on Saturday at Chez Wallyhood on Saturday, and it was a smashing success. We had about 20 people participate, bringing (and please forgive me the ones I’ve forgotten): beet shallot vinaigrette, kale pesto, basil pesto, limoncello, pale ale, pickled beets, pickled string beans, stevia, infused butters, carrot onion slaw, chocolate truffles, granola, chili tequila, humus, fresh eggs, Philthy Sanchez sauce, cheesey balled goodness, sour cream, cheese cake, avocado garbanzo chocolate cake (no, really, awesome), nectarine jam, peppercorn shortbread, and Wallyhood Honey (natch).

While the swapping filled our larders with a greater variety of homemade yummies than we could possibly concoct on our own in a year, the real bonus was meeting so many like-minded neighbors. Thanks everyone who made it out, and yes, we will be holding another one, probably come summer when there’s a bounty of backyard crops coming ripe. If anyone wants to kick another one up in the meantime, give us a shout and we’ll put the out word.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
