Happy Birthday, Smash

  • Post author:

Smash Wine Bar and Bistro is celebrating their 5th anniversary today! Dana says she’ll have the patio open and the heaters out, so you can enjoy some early Spring outdoor happy hour (and a fine happy hour they have). Weatherman says sunny with a high in the upper 50’s, which, by Seattle standards, is prime outdoor seating weather.

Only five years? Doesn’t it seem longer? For the life of us, we can’t even remember what was there before it was Smash. Anyone?

(Smash is a Wallyhood sponsor)

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Wasn’t it that store called Embellishments? They had a Greenwood location too.

I think the time line is Matzoh Ball Soup (before even my time), Chinese Food, Embellishments, Smash.

Not sure I’m remembering the order right, but:
    – Cybear Cafe
    – Some deli/bagel place whose name I can’t remember
    – Treasure Thai
    – Embellishments
    – What else?

Treasure Thai was before Embellishments. I couldn’t remember what it was called. I think the deli/bagel place and cyber cafe were in the other half of the space (where the salon is now) – cyber cafe, then deli, then hair salon. Whatever was before Treasure Thai and the cyber cafe predates my time in the hood.
