Perche No says ‘Amo Malese!’

Fried Hokkien MeeFor one night only, Wallingford will have not one, but two restaurants serving Malaysian food. By now, you’ve probably tried Satay‘s Malaysian fare. If you haven’t, you should, it’s amazing. And you’ve probably tried Perche No‘s Italian food (1319 N 49th St). Also fantastic.

But have you tried Perche No’s Malaysian food?

A bit of surprise, perhaps, but not if you know that the owners of Perche No all share the last name “Kong”. Lily Kong tells us that customers have been asking for a Malaysian night and, for the night of Monday, April 18th only, the Kongs will oblige. They will replace their entire Italian menu with Malaysian.

Start with the Satay Ayam, move on to the to Belachan KangKong with some Nasi Kuning on the side and then wrap it up with Nyonya Kuih, you can’t go wrong. Their full, one-night Malaysian Menu is online, to whet your appetite.

If you make it, please let us know how you liked it!

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

I was prepared to get a babysitter until I realized there’s not a single vegetarian dish on the menu. Bummer! Any chance of adding one?

Well, another bummer! I’m out of town. Hope they’ll do it again sometime. Satay’s limited but excellent menu has given me a peek into Malaysian food, and I’d love to have a wider menu to choose from.

Unfortunately, traditional Malaysian street food is not vegetarian and we cannot change the recipe. Otherwise, it’s not Malaysian food anymore. Sorry about that.

Satay has a couple vegetarian dishes, although they pale in comparison with what you can get just across the street at Jhanjay.

Come for the tumeric-jasmine rice and desserts, that’s well worth it!
