Garbage Pit Meeting

  • Post author:

Sometimes it feels like we’re stuck, running over the same decisions over and over, wrestling with the same problems. And then, something pops free and bam!: progress. The Festering Pit at Stone Way and 40th has woken from its slumber and is blossoming into a modern, urban residential / retail complex.

And soon, too, we believe, the garbage pit down on 35th will be transformed into a modern, urban…garbage pit. Ready for a glimpse of the future? Join the Bob Quinn and friends for a tour of the old pit and a glimpse of the future. This Saturday, you’ll have a chance to view the existing station, provide input on the proposed design concepts and learn more about the future of the North Transfer Station.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Not in my backyard! Put it where it belongs. Nearer to poor people.

Oh, Max. Sounds like you might enjoy the East Side. 😉

I love our dump. I hope that whatever the new design entails, they keep the ability to throw things from a high ledge.

Still a really bad idea –

Belongs in Interbay (original location) where the trash can be loaded directly into rail cars (that’s where the gi-normous trucks that bust up and clog our streets take it).

The people at the city who are supposedly working this don’t know enough to be effective; the woman I talked to didn’t know the first thing about railroads – not acceptable!

Show up on Saturday and stop it!
