Farmers Market

It’s Wednesday, which means today is the Wallingford Farmers Market, newly relocated to Meridian Park, just to the west of the Good Shepherd Center. The consensus from all those we heard from was that it’s a nice improvement over the old location: there are 50% more vendors to choose from, the adjoining playground is great break if you have kids, and the grassy field and surrounding trees give the whole thing a bucolic feel.

Our take last week was fairly slender (it’s tough to shop when your two-and-a-half year-old wants to play chase with every passing dog, but still satisfying: a hearty loaf of bread from Grateful Bread Bakery. Being the only gluten-eater in our household, we sliced the loaf down the middle and popped half in the freezer to make for fresher eating. We saw a beautiful variety of fresh cheeses, milks, vegetables, fruit, cider, pastries, and more.

Jason Brzozowy of Tilth (the restaurant, not the gardening organization) will be providing the cooking demonstration from 4 – 5 pm. If you get the ingredients for whatever he’s got going, you can’t go wrong.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
