Note from Waterway 18

Oliver Bazinet forwarded us this note, penned by Waterway 18:

Dear Wallingford,

I think it’s time for a formal introduction – my name is Waterway 18. Nice to meet you. I’m not a loud, high profile waterway so sometimes it’s hard to be noticed. In fact, I’m just a little parklet hanging out down along Lake Union between Dunato’s boat yard and the big empty lot next to the Gasworks Marina. Sometimes you might bring Fido, your paddleboard, canoe or kayak to visit me and go swimming. That makes me feel great because I like visitors! I also like friends. There’s a group of them that come every once in a while to groom me. It’s really important that they do because my owners don’t have the capacity to groom me themselves and without a little bit of loving care every couple months, I can become a bit haggard. Weeds grow in my beds and garbage collects along my shore. If you’d like to become my friend and meet the rest of them, come join us for a work party on Saturday, October 1st from 9am to 12pm. To join Friends of Waterway 18 or RSVP to the work party, just email my buddy Oliver: [email protected].

Yours truly,
Waterway 18

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
