Last Art Walk of 2011

Last Wednesday was the last Wallingford Farmer’s Market of 2011, and this Wednesday will be the last Wallingford Art Walk of 2011. The Art Walk committee had originally planned to turn the Art Walk into a year-round event, but based on community reaction and declining attendance, they’ve decided to take a break for the next several months, and come back starting in February with an every-other-month event. Tara Shuttleworth, the organizer, wrote:

We have enjoyed the past year and trying to make a monthly event out of the Art Walk.  As of to date we now have over 30 businesses involved with the Art Walk, a mural on the side of Bottelworks and new Art Walk Signs and Art Walk Maps.  We believe that if we make The Art Walk an event that happens occasionally throughout the year we will be able to promote it more as well as make each one a little more authentic.  This will be the last Art Walk of the year and we will be starting back up in February.  From there the Art Walk will be every other month, February, April, June, August and October.  We look forward to seeing you out and about this coming Wednesdays.

We wonder whether an every-other-month event will have problems of its own establishing momentum and habit, but agree that it had lost its mojo and needed a break.

But once more unto the breach, dear friends. Wallingford Art Walk web site has some of the participating businesses and the artists that will be displaying. Key Bank always has refreshments and Wine World has free wine tasting. You could do worse with your Wednesday night.

(Jeff Hengst, whose work Blue Male Nude is above, will be displaying at Wine World)

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
