Food and Soap

There are a couple opportunities around Wallingford to help folks out this weekend:

Wallingford Center is wrapping up a food drive to benefit Family Works. They’ve raised 195 lbs of food and would appreciate what else you have to offer.

Salon Metro (1714 N. 45th) is collecting toiletries such as you might have collected from your last hotel visit  for the Orion Center and Youth Care Transistional Living Program to benefit the homeless and those in need.

The shelter requests unopened shampoo, conditioner, straighteners, curlers, razors, plus soap for faces and bodies. Full size or travel size from your last hotel trip is fine. Items like scented pine tar shampoo are especially appreciated. Also, if you have unused makeup, please consider donating that for these homeless teens who are struggling to stay in school and find jobs.

Items that would help teens and young adults to get back on their feet and be presentable for job interviews are needed: soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, brushes, combs, etc. You may even have received Christmas gifts that you would rather pass on, like perfume or make up.

Jordan

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
