Edible Books Festival Saturday

  • Post author:

Don’t forget, this Saturday is the 7th Annual Seattle Edible Book Festival at the Good Shepherd Center (4649 Sunnyside Ave N).

Yes, we all love to devour a good book on a weekend, but this is more literal, if you’ll pardon the pun. Each year, contestants create edible interpretations of their favorite writing, poetic license encouraged. The web site offers  The Brothers Karamatzah, S’more and Peace, and The Bun Also Rises as examples. The lovely at the right is “Don Quichote”. Brilliant.

Registration for entrants closed last night, but the show is open for perusing tomorrow, Saturday, March 31 noon to 3:00 pm. The web site notes, though, that if you arrive after 2:00, you may find only crumbs, as that’s when the entries become the meal.

Edible Schedule:
•    11:00 to 12:00 Entries will be accepted, installed, photographed
•    12:00 to 1:30 public viewing and voting for Best in Show
•    1:30 Celebrity Judges award prizes
•    2:00 Edible Books will be eaten with tea, coffee and milk

And be sure to cheer on the entry from Wallyhood’s own Chris Witwer!

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
