Mark your calendars: next weekend, June 1 – 3, is Honk Fest West, the annual conclave of community street bands from across the nation, and Saturday, June 2nd will find them at Wallingford’s own Gas Works Park:

Renegade Marching Bands & Community Street Bands invade Seattle from Coast to Coast

A record twenty-three of the most exciting and original renegade marching bands and community street bands from across North America are returning to Seattle to perform absolutely free in streets, parks, and neighborhoods across the city for the fifth annual HONK! Fest West festival, from June 1st through June 3rd, 2012.

  • June 1st, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in Georgetown (12th Ave S. and S. Vale St.)
  • June 2nd, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Gas Works Park (2101 N. Northlake Way, Fremont)
  • June 3rd, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the EMP Sky Church (Seattle Center)
If you, we absolutely guarantee you will see: accordions, tubas, dented trumpets, feather boas, leather, home-made Mad Max-esque costumes, striped stockings, snare drums, duct tape, snare drums with duct tape, and a rarin’ good time.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
