Family Choir at FamilyWorks

Time to start singing, Wallingford. Sara Turner, the Family Programs Coordinator at FamilyWorks, writes:

I am trying to get the word out about a short-term family choir that we are having at FamilyWorks this summer. The choir is intended for any kid ages 4 to 12 with an adult; younger and older kids are welcome if the parent (and the kid if over 12) has a conversation with me beforehand. Children must come with at least one adult and there will be an optional opportunity to perform at the Goddess Festival on August 25.

The songs we will be singing preparing be in Spanish, Somali, Thai, and English, with time for people to share songs from other languages as well. This will be a great opportunity to learn and to reinforce any language learning that has been happening elsewhere!

The choir will meet on Wednesdays from 5 to 5:45 p.m. at FamilyWorks starting July 18 and going through August 22. During that time, we will sing songs from different languages and cultures, play musical games, and have a lot of fun! Attending every rehearsal is not mandatory for participation in the choir or the optional performance.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
