Tilth WOW Week and Harvest Fair

  • Post author:

Next week is Washington Organic Week (WOW), and the Wallingford-based gardening and ecology group Seattle Tilth is getting in the swing of it with a series of events, culminating in their 1st annual fundraising gala, “Under The Harvest Moon” and the annual Harvest Fair. There’s a full rundown on the Tilth Producers WOW Week web site, but here’s a sampling:

  • Greg Atkinson, executive chef of Marché, will be giving a cooking demonstration at the Book Larder in Fremont.
  • Organic Beer, Cider and Chocolate tasting at Theo Chocolate
  • The Under the Harvst Moon benefit on Saturday “will showcase the abundant bounty of our regions farms, ranches and orchards. The evening will feature a ‘good food’-focused silent auction, fabulous, live music, locally sourced hors d’oeuvres, organic beer, wine and cider and a live dessert auction to cap the evening off.”

The big deal from our vantage, though, is the Seattle Tilth Harvest Fair this Saturday, September 8th  (preceding WOW Week) 10:00 am – 4:00 pm in Meridian Park, behind the Good Shepherd Center:

Participate in this free, fun, lively hands-on community festival with workshops, cooking demonstrations and fun activities for all ages. Eat tasty food and enjoy live music with friends and family. Harvest season is a time to celebrate! Bring your friends and family for the seed swap, cider pressing and DIY herb crowns. The kids can participate in crafts in the children’s garden, take part in the parade at noon (arrive by 11 a.m.) and see a puppet show. Bring your home made goods for Backyard Barter’s barter 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Harvest Fair is beautiful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. We’ll see you there!

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Anyone want to buy/barter a jug w/siphon for making cider? I tried it once at a Tilth Fair and am not likely to do it again. It was a fun event though.
