Waiting to Exhale

We bumped in Josh Nagato, the new store manager at Puffin Glass (321 NE 45th St) the other day. At first, it looked like the shop was closing its doors, since all the merchandise was gone from the shelves and display cases, but it sounds like they’re just remodeling. We asked Josh to give us the inside dope:

The remodel is underway and we plan on re-opening by the end of next week. We are revamping the store to make a more pleasant shopping experience for our customers and we are getting some new products in that will blow your mind! We really think of ourselves more of a functional art gallery than a smoke shop. We want to make it clear that Puffin Glass Seattle is all about the art and the artists. We love the glass culture and how it has blown up over the past few years. There is some amazing stuff coming out of the glass scene and we want to bring this to our customers.

We asked him to send a photo of some of the new more interesting glass pieces, and he shared this shot of one by Jake C of Bellingham. Quite elaborate, indeed. They also plan to carry clothing and other items, as well.

Now, if only there were some neighborhood tie-in between Truly Helpful Collective, Puffin Glass and Dick’s, seems like it would be win-win-win.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Regardless of your views regarding the intent of the merchandise; Puffin’s is practically a gallery of beautiful glass artwork! I love this place
