Forums Are Back

  • Post author:

After a long hiatus, hiding out from spambots, the Wallyhood Forums are back!

These are an incredibly important part of the Wallyhood experience, because it’s an opportunity for the readers to create the conversation. One of the problems with the “blog” format of community site is that unless one of the writers happens to write an article about a particular topic, there’s nowhere for people to go to talk about it. As a result, comments sometimes get stuffed irrelevantly at the end of articles or, worse, important issues get ignored.

So, head on over to http://wallyhood.org/forums and start talking. We cleared out the archives, so things will be a bit bare for a while, but I have no doubt that things will fill up quickly. We’ve created Forums, initially: General, Crime and Safety and Lost and Found. If there are others you’d like to see, let us know and we can add them.

I’ll keep an eye out for spammers. If necessary, we can add a captcha, but let’s see how things go. If I get motivated, maybe I can add a Wallingford-specific captcha (e.g., to create an account, you must be able to answer the question “What three letter grocery store is located in the center of Wallingford?”).

Thanks for your patience!

Jordan

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

Guess there are still some bugs in the system as I was not able to log in to the forums.

Just wanted to say that I had another nail in the tire of my car this week. That is the third nail/screw in my car in 6 months. I live near Stanford School

Jon — You need to reregister. Your old login won’t work.

Where is the tag that allows us to register or reregister? I want to change my password, it is the assigned one, and I have no idea what it is. CAn we stay signed in all the time, like other neighborhood forums?

thanks, Jon, for letting us know tires are still at risk in this area of Wallingford.. I have not heard back from the police about this.

i could not log in either.

Wallyhood, thank you for all your work in bringing back the Forums! Was this a Holiday gift to us all?

You’re welcome! I don’t want to tell you how long it took before I figured out how long it took to get some of the simple things working.

iowagirl: to change your password, look all the way in the upper right corner of your screen. You can “Edit My Profile” from there, including changing your password.

    Wallyhood,

I’m sorry so few people here could get past themselves to thank you for your hard work. You are much appreciated, and you are right, I do have no idea how long it took you to troubleshoot everything before you got things up and running.

I guess thanking people are a thing of the past – even in this season – but I do thank you.

I missed the Forums very much, particularly where people recommended good experiences with good workers.

Peace and blessings to you and yours.

On August 29, 1997, Skynet became self-aware. We are from the government; we’re here to help you. Please put down the wire cutters and step away from the fusebox.

I’ll second (third?) the thanks. You’re providing a really nice part of our community’s community.

Ditto the thanks for all your efforts, Jordan. Wallyhood is included somewhere in most neighborhood conversations and your work is very much appreciated!!

Hi Jordan, I appreciate the forums, too. And also your dedication to Wallyhood.
I am sorry that Ms. Droid has decided that thanking people is a thing of the past.
I see kindness in our area, and in the city, everywhere I look.
I disagree with this very much. It will take a while for people to realize the forum has returned.
I am not sure I can post this, for I cannot see the “edit my profile” that you have referenced. If you have any further help for me in finding it, I’d appreciate having it.
