There was a fire at an abandoned building today between 36th and 38th on woodland park ave n.  I hear no one was injured so that’s good.

While no injuries were reported, the Seattle P-I reports that the house was slated for demolition, but that:

Upon arrival of the scene, firefighters were forced cut their way through both a locked fence and front door, leading officials to believe that someone had been living inside the abandoned building.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.

This was right next to our shop. I talked to the firefighters and they said some transient people started a fire inside to keep warm and left it smoldering. Fire broke out at the old heating oil company location. Good thing they drained the old ground oil tanks moths ago. Glad everyone was safe.
