Bike Blender

Jordan April 12, 2010 1 Comment

Hope you all made it to the Bikes are Beautiful event we told you about this past Saturday. We had hoped to, as well, but had a last minute romantic date with a stomach virus, instead. Ah, the sweet songs we sang.

Our Wallingford informants did make, however, and sent us this photo of the bike blender they constructed for the occasion.

¡Vive la bicicleta!…

Not a Number against the ropes

Jordan April 12, 2010 4 Comments

Not a Number, Wallingford’s longest-resident oddment shop, sounds like they’re getting roughed up by the economy. We just saw this come across Twitter:

Hey, we need your help to stay in business! If you like what we do for Wallingford come in! Or help find Number6 a job!

Following the link back to their Number6.org blog, we find the following:

As many of you may know, Number Six and the Head Cheese currently run a small brick and mortar gift shop in Seattle. Business has taken a HUGE downturn in the last 3-4 months forcing us to give part of …

Green Auto Care

Jordan April 12, 2010 Comments are off

We noted back in March that a new auto repair shop was opening where Walt’s used to be on 45th St, across from the Taco Time. We’re getting a few reviews, so we thought we’d share. Amy writes:

Green Care Auto Repair (http://greencareautorepair.com) has opened in the old Walt’s location on 45th Street. I took my car in last week and had a positive experience there. The owner, Alex, was friendly and helpful. He said the shop opened Monday, April 5. Prior to that, they spent a month and a half cleaning up the shop (it was remarkably clean in …

The Burke Gilman Gets Marked!

Patrick April 12, 2010 2 Comments

True confession: Back in the day when I lived on Capitol Hill and ran down to catch the Burke Gilman near Husky Stadium, I occasionally brought my bike and a small can of spray paint. See – GPS wasn’t really available, and if I REALLY wanted to know my distance, or to measure my progress week by week – I needed to know the distance from one mile to the next. Bike – check. Bike computer – check. Spray paint – check. No one looking – check!

And I’d paint a little circle right there on the trail! Well – …

Bikes are Beautiful

Jordan April 10, 2010 1 Comment

This is a Ballard event, but we’re big enough fans of bikes that we’re going to give it some love:

Say Hello to the Hamilton Hawks

Margaret April 9, 2010 5 Comments

Chris Carter is a busy guy—which makes sense, really, because he’s the principal of a very busy school.  Despite a nasty head cold, and the week-long school break, Chris took the time to meet with me and provide a first-hand glimpse of the happenings at Hamilton International Middle School.

You know, despite how close I live to Hamilton, I honestly didn’t know a thing about the school.  My only experience with the school has been watching students cut across my yard to get to the Metro stop, or when buses were idling along 41st, blocking my driveway until …
