Seattle Libraries Closed 8/30 thru 9/6

Chris Witwer August 25, 2010 5 Comments

All Seattle library locations, including the Wallingford branch, will be closed August 30th through Labor Day, returning to regular schedules again on Tuesday 9/7.

The closures are in response to 2010 budget cuts.  Closing the libraries for a week will hopefully keep additional operations cuts at bay.  For this year anyway.

Here’s the overview:

  • All book drops will be closed!  Wait to return books until 9/7.
  • Late fees will not accrue during the closure.
  • You’ll be able to search the library’s catalog, but not place holds.
  • Anything that requires an actual human person to do something, like open the doors or answer the phones, will not be available.  Which means no Wi-Fi, no Text a Librarian, no free library computer usage.

Library parking garages are also closed, except for Lake City.

What?  You don’t think you can take the withdrawal symptoms?  Never fear!  The Adult and Teen blogs will be functioning, as will library podcasts.  Full details on what will and will not be available throughout the week can be found here.

When the libraries do open again, let’s all drop in and say hi to our Wallingford librarians.  I’m sure they’ll be as glad to see us as we will be to see them!

The Wallingford Branch is located at 1501 N. 45th.

Hours of operation:

Monday: 1 pm – 8 pm
Tuesday: 1 pm – 8 pm
Wednesday: 11 am – 6 pm
Thursday: 11 am – 6 pm
Friday: – Closed
Saturday: 11 am – 6 pm
Sunday: – Closed

Wow! Thanks for the heads up that the book drops are closed, too.

If you use the library to access computers and Internet and don’t know where to get online during the closure, you should check out: http://bit.ly/seattlecomputeraccess

This is a Google Map I created that marks where to use a computer for free or low cost in Seattle. Of course, all Seattle Public Library locations are on the map, but you can see there are other places to use the computer. I don’t want anyone to miss out on a week of Wallyhood! 😉

Well, I did it as part of my job…so not entirely altruistic.

this is truly a sad day for Seattle- plenty of money for wasteful “research” projects which go on and on for years without making any decisions, ie the Alaskan Viaduct- tunnel replacement!!!!

How come the poor librarian staff has to take a pay cut (makeno mistake- “furlough” is just a euphemism for off with no pay!!!!) and the higher-ups (mayor, city council) do not have to make any concessions during these hard times – giving back some money from their huge salaries would probably not be noticed by them, whereas a week without pay is a big thing to librarian workers!!!!!

Wallyhood needs you!
