A Muddy Cup, Comics Dungeon Burglarized

Margaret Margaret October 26, 2010 10 Comments

Last night around 11:30 p.m., the police came to Sarah Dolezal’s home to inform her that her store, A Muddy Cup (266 NE 45th St.), had just been burglarized.  Someone had thrown a rock through the door and shattered the glass to break in.  Police informed Dolezal that someone had also broken into Comics Dungeon (250 NE 45th St.).

Dolezal wrote to let me know that they’re still open for business, “just a little shaken.” She and her partner Mathew spent the rest of the night in the store.  Suspects had smashed the cash machine but to her surprise Dolezal found only $4.25 missing in quarters.

Comics Dungeon manager Jon Parsons received a phone call from the police around 10 p.m.  He, too, reported damage to the store, but nothing had actually been taken.  “The front window on the door is completely gone.  The (cash) drawer is trashed but nothing was taken,” Parsons said.  He also said a wire shelf collapsed with its contents spread all over the place.

Wow! I was at both of those places yesterday (no, I’m not a robber!). That totally sucks! That has to be especially scary for a brand new business owner. 🙁

How weird that nothing was taken….but that is sure a sucky “welcome to Wallingford” for A Muddy Cup. Hopefully it doesn’t shake them up too much and we can all maybe make an extra visit to both stores and give them our best.

Wow, that seems pretty early in the evening for such a busy part of 45th. Condolences to both businesses. Time to shop for comics and get coffee!

Wallingford Workspaces was also broken into on Sunday night/Monday morning. Significant damage was done inside the building, and many individual offices were broken into and had things stolen. scary stuff!

This is awful! A Muddy Cup just had their grand opening, and were robbed two weeks to the day? So sorry to hear this. I’ve really enjoyed my two visits to their coffee shop. Sarah and Matt are super friendly, serve a great cup of coffee and have one comfy couch! Don’t be discouraged, guys. We’re so happy to have you in the neighborhood!

I’m so sorry this happened! Will be stopping by for a coffee today. It’s important that our local businesses know we support and stand with them.

Maybe time for some security cameras on 45th?

What kind of robber breaks into a store but doesn’t take anything? Weird.
