Help Support Our Local International Schools

Shannon October 29, 2010 3 Comments

As residents of Wallingford we are surrounded by great schools and education options.  Now our international schools are asking for our support.  Out of five local international schools, Wallingford is glad to be the home to two, John Stanford International Elementary and Hamilton International Middle School.

Wallingford residents are invited to the First Annual Celebrating Connections Event and Auction, Thursday, November 4, 5:00pm.  The event will be held at the Fisher Pavilion, Seattle Center, 305 Harrison Street.  The proceeds and donations from this event will support students of Seattle Public Schools International Arts: Denny International Middle School, Hamilton International Middle School, Beacon Hill International Elementary School, Concord International Elementary School, John Stanford International Elementary School, and Chief Sealth International High School.

According to Dick Lee and the Seattle Schools International Arts Program:

Through international arts our students have the opportunity to understand themselves and their fellow students in relation to our complex and inter-connected world, providing them with the foundational knowledge and skills that will benefit them for a lifetime. Thank you for your support of our students.

Most importantly, we are hoping to raise funds to support in part, more opportunities for artist-in-residence to come to the international schools and share knowledge and experiences in international arts.  This includes dance, visual arts, and performance arts.  The artists help in teaching students about cultural expression through the artistic medium while also helping students learn about performance.  The artists support some key features of the art curriculum and share their unique talents and cultural expression.

Schedule of Events:

5pm Doors Open for Silent Auctions, Appetizers and Beverages

7pm Buffet Dinner prepare by Chef Kaspar Donier

7:30 Program and Live Auction

8pm Live Auction

9pm Event Ends

Ticket Prices for Patrons $150 (Parties of Ten $1500)

Tickets for Benefactors $75 (Parties of Ten $750)

The Seattle School District is hoping to have 400-500 people attend this inaugural event.  The promise an evening of celebration and wonderful fellowship, while supporting our local international schools.

hi, can someone explain exactly what an “International School” is?
Are these specialty schools or part of SPS?

    (newcomer to Seattle)

    thanks!

Hi Newcomer. Welcome to Seattle! These are schools within the SPS system. Here’s an SPS FAQ: http://www.seattleschools.org/area/internationaled/index.dxml
I’ll give you the details for both Wallingford schools: John Stanford International and Hamilton International.

John Stanford is an elementary school with a language immersion program. That means that students enrolled from Kindergarten on up to 5th grade learn half of their subjects in a second language: Japanese or Spanish. More info on this school can be found here:
    http://www.jsisweb.com/classroom

Hamilton International Middle School is not an immersion school, but offers a three year World Languages program in Spanish and Japanese, which is considered a core class.
More info can be found here:
