Wee Wally Halloween

Margaret Margaret October 28, 2010 Comments are off

Given that Wallingford has become the top spot for trick-or-treating for the second year in a row, your children’s first priority is to exercise their right to demand candy from the neighbors. But since Halloween falls on a Sunday this year, there’s lots of fun neighborhood activities all weekend long to help add to, and work off the sugar rush.  Here’s what’s in store for the kiddies of Wallingford:

Friday, October 29

Oom Yung Doe (4319 Stone Way):  Halloween Safety Workshop for kids, 4 p.m.  Join the School of Oom Yung Doe and Seattle Police Dept for treats and demonstrations of martial arts skills.

Saturday, October 30

Meridian School’s Fall Festival (4649 Sunnyside Ave North): Noon – 3pm at Good Shepherd Center. Food and games for kids of all ages, pumpkin painting and more.

OmCulture (2210 N Pacific Street): Halloween Family Dance and Live Music from 3:30 – 5pm. $5, age 2 and under free.  Live music and family-friendly playtime beginning at 7:30 p.m. Costume party from 9:30-on.

Wallingford Boys & Girls Club (1310 N. 45th St.): Halloween Hoopla. Haunted House, 6-9 p.m.  The Hoopla features a haunted house (scary-for older youth), Frankenstein’s Lab (perfect for all), carnival games, a cake walk, arts & crafts, and much more.  Entry is just a buck for five tickets, and if you bring cans for the local food bank, you’ll earn even more tickets.

Sunday, October 31

Green Halloween 1k Kids Dash (5900 West Green Lake Way N.): Lower Woodland Park near the new skate park  Register in person beginning 7:30-8:45am. 1K w/t-shirt $15, w/o $10.

Wallingford Center (1815 N. 45th St.) Family trick-or-treating and the Wallingford Center Merchants 4th Annual Food Drive. 3-5 p.m.  Bring non-perishable donation.

All along 45th Street: Beginning at 3 p.m. Look for the participating retailers’ bright orange signs in store windows.  Many retailers, like The Sock Monster, for instance, will follow the Green Halloween spirit of giving out healthy snacks or other little trinkets.

Fainting Goat Gelato (1903 N 45th): Free scoops of gelato for kids! 5pm to 8pm,

Not A Number Cards & Gifts (1905 N 45th Street): Costume Contest for Kids & Adults – Special Political Category!  Photos taken throughout Trick or Treat, 3-7pm; winners selected end of evening.

Blue Star Cafe and Pub (4512 Stone Way N.): All day long, kids, 12 and under, in costume, eat free on Halloween (only valid on children’s menu items). Also, Sunday night is Blue Star’s Five Buck Burger and Fries Night’ after 5 p.m.

Last call for pumpkin carving entries is 10/31 at 11:59 p.m.  Send us your pics for prizes!
