Final Year for Pathway Of Lights?

Shannon November 23, 2010 Comments are off

The Seattle Parks and Recreation and Green Lake Community Center Advisory Council are proud to announce the 34th Annual Pathway Of Lights at Green Lake (7201 E Green Lake Dr N) –taking place Saturday, December 11, from 4:30pm-7:30pm, RAIN or SHINE.  The lake will be surrounded by thousands of candles, making the walk even more enjoyable.  The holiday spirit will be in full-swing, as local musicians, carolers, and warm beverages/treats en-light our community on this dark December evening.

Despite it’s longstanding tradition, the Pathway of Lights is one of many programs threatened by the Seattle Parks and Recreation budget cuts.

The Seattle Parks and Recreation and GLCC:

Join thousands of families, friends, and neighbors in this beloved Seattle tradition and travel the 2.8 mile path around the lake, taking in the warm glow of the luminaria. We encourage people to bring their own lights and candles to add to the ambiance.

Local musicians will perform at four sites around the lake: the Green Lake Community Center on the east side, the Green Lake Small Craft Center (the Aqua Theater) on the south side, the Bathhouse Theater (Seattle Public Theatre) on the north side and The Arch on the east of side of the community center/pool. Warm drinks and treats will be available at those locations, as will donation bins for non-perishable food items for Northwest Harvest.

The event needs the neighborhood’s help–volunteers are needed for placing and lighting thousands of luminance candles around Green Lake, as well as assistance with clean up after the event.  Event setup  is scheduled for 2pm-4pm, lighting candles will take place at 4:15pm, and clean-up is from 7:30pm-8:30pm.
