PB&J Latte

Chris Witwer December 6, 2010 8 Comments

No, I’m not drunk.  Yes, this entire post is about a peanut butter and jelly latte.

Never heard of it?  Me neither.  I’ll  admit I’ve ordered more than my share of flavored espresso drinks over the years – everywhere from Austin to Miami to Brussels to Rome.  But I had never, not once, not ever, heard of a “peanut butter and jelly latte.”  Not until I walked past A Muddy Cup’s sandwich board this weekend.

WTF?  So of course, I had to try it.

Matt made my drink & let me pick a “jelly” flavor.  Then I watched him put peanut butter in my coffee (weird!).  When I took a sip, I could actually taste the individual layers of peanut butter, then jelly, then whipped cream that acts like some sort of neutral-tasting liquid white bread.

Okay, I’m failing at describing the thing.   I’m going to finish my drink now.

Only in Wallingford, eh?

I’ve had TWO based on Chris’ review and they are scrumptious (if you’re a fan of PB&J). The first had strawberry syrup which produced a pink foam and a more classic taste. The second was blackberry (purple syrup!) and was more subdued and subtle. It is sweet, and the nut taste is earthy but it’s like a snack and drink rolled into one. In fact, I want another one right now.

I can also attest to the nifty nature of the PB&J latte at Muddy Cup. I had a blackberry one and it tasted amazingly like a quite yummy snackwich sort of thing. Strangely addictive…

I bet this would go great with a pb&j cupcake from trophy cupcakes.

Hooray for the Muddy Cup! Those of us living over there in the eastern part of Wallingford are not only grateful to finally have a neighborhood café to call our own, but are extra grateful to have one with such a fun cozy atmosphere, top-notch coffee (with beans roasted right in Wallingford), and friendly hardworking owners.
