Wallingford Community Kitchen Celebrates MLK Day

Chris Witwer January 10, 2011 Comments are off

Sustainable Wallingford’s Rachel Duboff has given us the deets about the first Wallingford Community Kitchen of 2011. And get this: gifted chef and local cooking instructor Patrice Savery will be on hand to assist in the preparation of some truly Southern menu items.  (Yes, “Southern” is capitalized & always should be.)

The menu includes Johnny cakes, black eyed peas, braised greens, and sweet potato pie.  Yum!

  • When: Friday, January 14 from  5:30pm to 9pm
  • Where: Wallingford Community Senior Center, 4649 Sunnyside Ave N, Room 140 Seattle, WA
  • Cost: $9.99 pre-registration fee, $15 at the door

About the event, Rachel writes:

“We will cook as a community and then enjoy the bounties of our labor by sitting down to share a meal. Participation requires a $9.99 pre-registration fee to cover the cost of ingredients and the facilities. Entrance will be $15 at-the-door. We are also asking those that can, to please donate a bit extra to help out those that could not otherwise afford to attend. We will have a limited number of reduced fee tickets available – please email the coordinator for a password.

Tickets may be purchased here or you can mail or drop a check payable to: Wallingford COMMUNITY Senior Center **Please indicate the names of all people attending**

We also ask that all participants bring an appetizer or drink to share with the group (please no bread products as we receive those by donation)…we ask that all participants do their best to arrive by our start time of 5:30pm. ”

About Patrice Savery:  Chef Patrice has lived in Hong Kong, Thailand, Costa Rica, and Saudi Arabia.   She holds a master’s degree in food studies from New York University where she focused on healthy eating among children.  She teaches children’s culinary classes in Seattle,  is a staff member at Bastyr University,  and freelances on food-related projects.
