Really? The building sounds already planned. I’ve been to these. They’re B.S.

The building may be planned, but the design review meetings can influence how the building gets designed. Design review boards have been successful in getting developers to include open space and other amenities for the neighborhood. The meetings are not designed to stop the development.

If you don’t believe the Design Review program can have a significant impact on projects, head down to the DPD and call up the seven years of documents related to the Stone Way and 40th site (the “pit” now under construction). The DRB and your fellow citizens (myself among them) smacked down some really lousy designs on the way to what will likely be a really decent building.

JS, thanks for posting the link to the design materials. Looks like a good project. Higher density, close to transit and amenities. Probably geared towards younger professional types. Certainly preferable to what is on the site now.
