Seattle Bike Blog reminds us to be safe this holiday weekend

Margaret Margaret November 23, 2011 3 Comments

Tom over at Seattle Bike Blog posted a pic of an accident that happened on the Burke Gilman Trail this afternoon. The photo was sent to the blog by Wallyhood neighbor Geoff. It seems the car, pictured below, crashed and came to rest on the Burke Gilman Trail @N. 36th St. and N. Pacific. The incident happened around 2:00pm this afternoon and the trail was reopened by 2:45. No ambulances were called to the scene, according to the 911 report.

Be safe, folks! Not only is it a holiday weekend, but it’s raining like mad and the roads are slick.

Some cars don’t like bikers on the road, but all bikers don’t like cars on the trail.

I hope that Seattle can keep improving safety on the trail and for bikers.

I am wondering if this was the same crazy vehicle that was being chased by multiple Seattle Police, Medina Police, and State Patrol about that same day/time going north on Eastlake onto University Bridge. Couldn’t see just where it zoomed to, but clearly the driver was under some delusion that he/she could outdrive the law.

@walkinroun: Probably… There were multiple sirens, and way too many cruisers from different jurisdictions for this to be a simple traffic accident.

The trail may have been cleared by 2:45, but the cops (and the news helicopter) were still there around 4PM. Fire was just arriving around 3:45 – I wonder if there was some concern about leaking fuel or some such? Anyway… I’m surprised such incidents don’t occur more often at that intersection.
