Uptown Espresso honors Veterans by giving back

Margaret Margaret November 10, 2011 Comments are off

In honor of Veterans Day tomorrow (Friday, Nov. 11), all of the Uptown Espresso locations, including the Wallingford store (2300 N. 45th St.), will donate 100% of its proceeds to American Lake Veterans Golf Course.

Located in Lakewood, the American Lake Veterans Golf Course has been serving the military since it opened in 1955, and since 1995, it’s been operated and maintained exclusively by volunteers after the government cut off its funding. According to the website, “The Friends of American Lake Veterans Golf Course goal is to promote the rehabilitation of our disabled veterans through the healing power of golf, in an atmosphere of camaraderie that aids in the healing transition of their physical, mental and emotional challenges.”

The golf course has a Rehabilitation and Learning Center that was built in 2010. The center features a Full Swing Golf Simulator, a teaching station, and a putting area, enabling year-round therapy for golfers utilizing wheel chairs or Solo Riders.

So, stop-in to Uptown tomorrow for your usual (or your unusual) as a way of saying “thanks” to local Veterans.
