Celebrate ‘Loving Day’ at Fuel Coffee

Margaret Margaret June 10, 2012 3 Comments

Next Tuesday, June 12, is Loving Day! “What’s that?” you ask, “Another fabricated holiday foisted upon us from Hallmark?” Absolutely not! As Bam from Fuel Coffee explains:
June 12 is Loving Day, which commemorates the 1967 court ruling that legalized interracial marriage nation-wide. Loving Day is named after Mildred & Richard Loving,  who challenged the law against interracial marriage in their home state of Virginia, and won marriage rights for themselves and all interracial couples in the US. And of course the whole month of June is LGBT Pride month, which is particularly exciting and meaningful this year in Washington State!
Bam also tells us about a free event hosted by Fuel, in honor of the occasion:
The Loving Day Pride Party is a free event on Tuesday, June 12 from 2pm-6pm. We are planning a celebration of diversity, love, and family! We will have snacks, stories, and art projects that celebrate Loving Day, Pride Month, and the concept of family as defined by love above all else.
Fuel Coffee is located at 1705 N. 45th Street, between Wallingford and Densmore.

Note: I wrote up that blurb when I still (naively) believed there was a chance Ref 74 would be ratified this year, and my wording reflects my naivete. We haven’t won yet, but a change gonna come – and events like the Loving Day Pride Party are part of that change! Thanks, Wallyhood, for your support 🙂

I would ask the owners to consider that many people work til 5 and then dont get home til after 6. This party excludes them.

Hi, No Kidding! Thanks for your feedback. We wanted to schedule a time that would work well for kids – around the time they will be getting out of school, and not too late. I apologize that the time we scheduled could be seen as inconsiderate of people who do not get home until after 6pm. If we host this event again next year, we will schedule differently! Thank you.
