Wallingford Weekend

Margaret Margaret June 22, 2012 Comments are off

Hey-ho, it’s the first weekend of summer, and if we’re lucky enough, temperatures should break 60 degrees. We’re a hearty lot here in Wallingford though, and this weekend’s weather will be perfect for strolling through the neighborhood. Here’s a few things you can do while you’re out and about:

Oasis Gallery Furniture Sale – Saturday and Sunday, from 1:00-4:00pm
Oasis Gallery owner Alex writes, “We have a lot of high quality furniture, display items, track lighting, baskets and much more – all for sale at great prices.” The gallery will be closing at the end of July, so this is a great time to stop by and take a look at what they’ve got for sale. Oasis Gallery – 3644 Wallingford Avenue N.

The Bears Upstairs at Alphabet Soup Books – Sunday, 11:00am
The Bears Upstairs is a children’s band that plays lively, uplifting, original music for the whole family. Live shows are fun, interactive experiences with puppets, dancing, and opportunities for kids to play along with the band. You might have seen them at Woodland Park Zoo May 12th, now catch them at the Soup! Free music, fun & refreshments.
Alphabet Soup Books – 1406 N. 45th St.

Wallingford Garden Tour, Sunday, from 10:00am – 4:00pm.
A self-guided stroll through ten private gardens around the neighborhood organized by (and benefitting) the Wallingford Neighborhood Association. This year’s tour features a variety of gardens throughout the neighborhood. Many of the gardens combine ornamental features along with edibles. You will see the spirit and craft of the DIY movement along with professionally designed gardens. Discover creative ways to use materials, create screens, get ideas for seating areas, and lovely plant combinations. Meet Arlys Pederson, a longtime Wallingford resident, who created a beautiful garden for source material for her art form, Garden Poundings. In addition, tour goers are invited to tour her studio and view the art she creates using the foliage and flowers in her garden.

Tickets are $15 for adults, children under 12 are free and can be purchased  at Tweedy and Popp in Wallingford Center as well as at the Wallingford Neighborhood Office (behind Tully’s) on the day of the tour. Maps provided to ticket holders. Tweedy & Popp at Wallingford Center – 1815 N. 45th St.
Wallingford Neighborhood Office – 4504 Meridian Avenue N.
