Self defense workshops

Margaret Margaret February 20, 2013 Comments are off

In response to the recent attacks in the area, Oom Yung Doe (3845 Bridge Way), along with ADT Security, is offering a new series of self defense seminars free to the community. If you can make it, the first one starts this evening (2/20) at 6:30pm at Oom Yung Doe; but for those who can’t, each session will cover the same techniques and situations repeatedly. For those who attend multiple workshops and are able to learn the techniques, there are intermediate and advanced techniques that will be taught. All six will be held on the 3rd Wednesday for six months (2/20, 3/20, 4/17, 5/15, 6/19, 7/17). Here’s a little more information from Oom Yung Doe:

These workshops will cover a very specific technique that protects from various types of attacks and also sets you up to deliver a powerful strike to a vulnerable part of the attacker’s body. This simple technique can be used against a punch, wrist or arm grab, hair grab, or choke and doesn’t require years of training or any intricate coordination to use.

For those who attend the workshops consistently, we will also learn how to defend against someone grabbing both arms, or someone bear hugging from behind. Our local ADT rep Kylee Pettiford will also be there to offer free information on basic things people can do to make there homes more secure and less likely to be burglarized.

In addition, we encourage everyone in the community to try a free week of self defense training at no charge and no commitment. This free week of self defense training will cover the same topics and techniques as our monthly workshops.
