Wallingford neighbor Lynn sent us a note about some Lincoln High School graduates who have gone on to some athletic distinction at the University of Washington and are fundraising for a trip to the national tournament at the end of the month. She writes:
Our Wallingford neighborhood has long been a hotspot for the sport of ultimate frisbee, with players supported from elementary through high school by an incredibly dedicated cadre of volunteer coaches and parents. (Fun fact: More than a dozen Wallingford kids have played on national teams representing the United States and Canada, competing at official world tournaments.)
The University of Washington men’s college team includes several former Lincoln Lynx High School ultimate players. Now, for the first time in years, the UW men’s ultimate frisbee team, the Sundodgers, is headed to D1 college nationals over Memorial Day weekend in Rockford, Illinois.

The team is raising funds to make sure every player can go to nationals, offering $15 Seattle Mariners tickets for the May 30th game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Mariners will give the Sundodgers $5 for every ticket sold by May 15th through the link below.
We’ll see lots of other Lynx alumni and Wallingford kids taking the field to compete at nationals on other Division 1 and Division 3 college teams, too. Way to represent, Wallingford.
Gary recently retired from a long career as a marine biologist with NOAA, where he responded to oil & chemical spills and provided scientific support following hurricanes. He has been a Wallingford resident for over 30 years, his son attending John Stanford International School and Hamilton Middle School. He's been around here for so long, he remembers when there was a McDonald's at Stone Way and 45th!
