As reported here and elsewhere in Seattle’s lesser media, historian Paul Dorpat recently passed. Paul was a treasured educator for and about the city, as well as a resident and fixture in our Wallingford neighborhood. Our friends at Seattle Now & Then let us know that there will be a remembrance at the Museum of History and Industry on August 30th. From their announcement:

Paul Dorpat spent a lifetime helping Seattle see itself. At 6:30 pm Sunday, August 30, 2026, friends, family, and readers will gather at the Museum of History & Industry, 860 Terry Avenue N, to celebrate him. It’s free and open to all—no ticket, no reservation, nothing required. Come as you are.

This is sure to be a poignant and funny evening honoring a guy who adored this city and wandered the same uneven sidewalks that we do around the ‘hood. Seattle Now & Then was looking to fundraise to cover the costs of the event, but they hit that goal; that doesn’t mean you can’t or shouldn’t contribute to an organization that Dorpat epitomized and loved. Even if you don’t, it would be big fun to give a final salute to the irreverent guardian of Seattle’s past on August 30th!
