Jonathan Cohen, a forty year resident of Wallingford, is opening Ebanista, a new school of fine woodworking near Green Lake.  Tomorrow, Saturday August 18th there is an open shop from 1:00 – 3:30 pm  at the Ebanista school in the old Vita Milk building (420 NE 72nd Street).  The times of the event are slightly different on the website, however Mr. Cohen confirmed the 1:00 – 3:30pm times.  He invites the community to stop by the studio to meet him and the space.  I have copied his invitation at the bottom of this post.

The developers of new townhouses are holding an open house for the community on Tuesday, July 10th, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Zoka (2200 N 56th St.).  The new townhouses will be located beside the Burgundian. The flyer for the event can be downloaded here.

The process for upgrading the Wallingford Playfield is in full swing.  Jordan wrote about it earlier and provided much of the necessary context.  The executive summary: the city has $400,000 to upgrade the playfield equipment and they want community input.

First, there is a survey.  If you have not completed the  survey,  it is still live.

Then there is an open house to further gather input and answer questions.  The open house is at the Wallingford Boys and Girls Club (4219 Wallingford Ave N) on Tuesday, July 10th from 6pm – 7:30pm.

City Fruit is a Seattle non profit that promotes the cultivation of urban fruit to build strong

communities.  They saw the abundance of fruit trees in the city, and how little of the fruit was consumed.   They have done great work to solve that problem.  Last year they harvested 34,000 pounds of fruit with 19,000 of it going meal programs and food banks.  One tree in Wallyhood’s own Meridian Park generated 490 pounds of fruit.

The Tilth Edible Plant Sale is this weekend.  Saturday and Sunday from 9am – 3pm at Meridian Parks , with early bird sale this afternoon from 5-7pm.
