Erin Leach-Kemon moved to Seattle from her one-stoplight hometown of Middleburg, Va. in fall 2008. She completed her bachelor’s degree in English at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. Before moving to the Pacific Northwest, she interned as a staff writer at local newspapers and magazines, as well as working as a student affairs intern/House Mom/ pub crawl organizer in Bath, England. Currently residing in Wallingford, she regularly contributes stories to her neighborhood blog, Wallyhood and works as a technical writer for Microsoft. Her interests range from European country hopping, non-fiction writing (primarily on the city’s metro buses) and the occasional dumpster dive.

Farmers Market: Back in Town Tomorrow!

It’s finally time! The Wallingford Farmers Market reopens for their first market of the season tomorrow, Wednesday, May 19 from 3-7 p.m. The market will be set up in the south section of the Wallingford Center parking lot, located at NE 45th and Wallingford Ave. N.

Don’t forget to write those grocery lists! One week from today (5/19) the Wallingford Farmers Market will return for its fifth season. This weekly, Wednesday market is located at the Wallingford Center at NE 45th and Wallingford Ave. N from 3 – 7 pm.

In addition to new and former vendors, the market will include cooking demonstrations from local culinary extraordinaires from 4 – 5pm. On Wednesday, May 19, Chef Rachel Yang of Joule Restaurant will present, followed by Chef Dustin Ronspies from Art of the Table on Wednesday, May 26.

Stormtrooper Invasion Caught on Video

Last week we provided coverage of annual Free Comic Book Day at Comics Dungeon (45th, Thackeray).

Local filmmaker Scott Fisher caught wind of the action, snapped a few photos and created a spectacular video of Stormtroopers and other Star Wars characters invading the shop.

Community Helps Raise $1,700 Toward Challenge Grant

The Senior Center’s “New Start” community pancake breakfast on April 25 brought out 204 attendees and raised $1,700 toward the center’s $25,000 challenge grant. The event was put on by a group of 40 volunteers, ranging from 12-years-of-age to the eldest, who was in her eighties. Additionally, the center raised $900, which will go toward the actual event cost.

Farmers Market Returns for 5th Year, Makeover

The Wallingford Farmers Market will open for its fifth season next month on Wednesday, May 19. Due to expansion and an increased need for customer parking, the Wallingford Center (45th and Wallingford) is now only able to offer market vendors the south section of their parking lot, totaling 24 spaces. This is also the final year that the market will be held at the Center.

In order to accommodate additional vendors, the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce and the Seattle Farmers Market Association plan to expand the market into the parking lane of Wallingford Ave (between N 45th and N 44th), …
