Be A Reading Buddy

FamilyWorks is looking for some volunteers, ages 16+, to help out with a reading program for kids, ages 6-12, at the Wallingford Boys & Girls Club.

The program will run Tuesdays & Thursdays July 2 – August 20 (no tutoring on July 4). and orientation begins next Tuesday (June 18). Volunteers meet with their buddies from 4 to 5 p.m. and can come at 3:30 to help set up and stay until 5:15 to help clean up.  They encourage volunteers to commit to coming for the entire program, but they are flexible. A Benefit Concert to celebrate the life of Felipe Cañete

Last month, we told you about the sudden passing of Felipe Cañete – a Wallingford resident who performed with bands Luc and the Lovingtons and Sing with Señor.

A benefit concert will be held at the Neptune Theater (1303 NE 45th St.) this Saturday (June 15, beginning at 6:00pm), to honor Felipe. This is an all-ages show and the suggested donation is $10 at the door (to benefit Felipe’s family). Here are more details from the Seattle Theatre Group’s webpage:

One of our neighbors (in the 4100 block of Densmore) is moving and is having a garage sale this Saturday.  Some of the other neighbors are joining in to make it our 3rd annual block-wide garage sale.

The garage sale is this Saturday, June 15, from 9:00am to 1:00pm. The Densmore/41st block is directly across from the SE corner of Hamilton.

A Prowler in Hospital Scrubs

KING 5 News reports that a man wearing hospital scrubs broke into a Wallingford home, early in the morning, on Thursday, June 6. The incident occurred at the 4000 block of Densmore Avenue N. The suspect is a 26 year-old male who came in through a first-floor window that was “unlocked and slightly ajar” according to the report. The owner of the home and his family were asleep when they heard their dog barking loudly and found the suspect on the stairs leading up to their children’s bedroom. The homeowner grabbed the suspect and called the police, who then arrested …
