Margaret July 3, 2013 1 Comment

Have you been toying with the idea of building a backyard chicken coop or starting your own little farm? If you want some creative inspiration, then you’ll definitely want to check out Seattle Tilth’s Chicken Coop & Urban Farm Tour on Saturday, July 13, from 10:00am to 4:00pm:

In this self-guided tour, you will see simple chicken coops built in an afternoon and elaborate finely-crafted coops that took weeks of planning and building. Capacity Management at Hamilton

Margaret July 1, 2013 26 Comments

Earlier in the year, we told you about the rise in the number of kids attending Hamilton in the 2013-14 school year. Initially, there was some speculation that the district would open an annex for incoming 6th graders at the John Marshall site on Ravenna Blvd. in Green Lake; however, that idea was taken off the table. Still, there are capacity management issues that remain, which will not only impact the school building, but also the traffic and parking around the school. Wallingford Family Parade & Festival

Margaret June 28, 2013 Comments are off

Make way for the Kiddie–ahem, excuse me–the Wallingford Family Parade and Festival, which kicks-off at 11:00am on Saturday, July 6. Now in it’s 64th year, the parade is one of the longest running Seafair sanctioned community events. The snazzy new name and logo reflects Wallingford’s “collective family” of neighbors, businesses, schools, and organizations.

This year’s theme is “Wild For Wallingford!” and while kiddies still play a big role in the parade, you’ll see all sorts of participants, including an Asian Small-Clawed Otter from Woodland Park Zoo serving as Grand Marshall. Kids/families are welcome to join in the “Wild for Wallingford” …

Seafair Summer Fourth at Gas Works Park

Margaret June 27, 2013 3 Comments

When it comes to the Fourth of July, Wallingford residents tend to fall into one of two camps: those who love the swarm of people converging on the neighborhood, and those who think the traffic, crowds, litter, and cars are an absolute nightmare. Personally, I love the neighborhood vibe on the Fourth but have never had the urge to venture south to Gas Works Park to catch a closer glimpse of the festivities. I’m fine with hanging out on the hill, mingling with the neighbors on the street who bring out their couches, barbecues, and even sno cone machines!

Wallingford Wading Pool Opens Wednesday

Margaret June 24, 2013 Comments are off

Happy days are here again — especially if you’re a parent to kids who love the Wallingford Wading Pool. The season kicks-off next Wednesday (June 26) and runs Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12:00pm to 7:00pm through August 18. The wading pool will only open if the temperatures reach 70, and you can phone the hotline anytime after 9:00am to find out 206-684-7796.

If you’re new to the wading pool scene, take a minute to familiarize yourself with Seattle’s wading pool expectations:
