Creatures of Wallyhood

The Coyotes eat the cats who eat the rats who eat the trash…but where do the crows fit in?

Being top of the food chain, Wally-humans may not fear for our own safety when we see a legged or winged predator, but a quick glance at any of the neighborhood facebook groups reminds us that we have a lot of opinions on the growing number of coyote sightings in the neighborhood.  A heated debate has emerged on the topic of outdoor cats — some fearing for the safety of their free-roaming feline friends and others essentially taking the side of …

Good Views and Great Vibes at Bowriders Grill

Megan Dulgar Okabayashi June 28, 2022 Comments are off

Best patio in Seattle has a new contender — and it’s right here in Wallingford.

Some months ago, I noticed Bowriders Grill pop up on Google maps right on the water, directly next to Westward. Eager for outdoor dining that might be easier to obtain without a reservation, my husband and I went on a scouting mission (aka mid-day beer break). We were delighted with what we found. The views and the vibes at Bowriders were out of this world. Sitting in Adirondacks, drinking cold beer out of recyclable aluminum cups, we watched seaplanes land as we slipped into a …

Tres Lecheria – 5th Birthday Bash – May 21

Megan Dulgar Okabayashi May 20, 2022 2 Comments

Anytime I get a last minute invite to a friend’s house for dinner, I have one clear stop to make first — just up the street to Tres Lecheria (formerly Cubes Baking Company). There are few things that satisfy a crowd more than a perfectly executed, sweet and silky Tres Leches cake! Last time I was there, they even had handmade jewelry and dog apparel (though that is not the main attraction)! Tres Lecheria is hosting a 5 year anniversary party in celebration of weathering the Covid-19 pandemic — TOMORROW!

Our very own award-winning dessert shop, will be hosting a …

Seattle Pops — Back from Hibernation

Megan Dulgar Okabayashi May 5, 2022 Comments are off

This weekend, the sun was shining and Wallyhood was out to welcome back Seattle Pops, after its winter slumber.  This neighborhood popsicle shop had a lengthy closure during the pandemic, but opened back up last summer, then closed for the cold winter months, and has now emerged once more!

Seattle Pops started as a freezer stand at a block party in 2013, hit the farmers market circuit in 2014 and has been here serving icy refreshments in the Wallyhood since 2017. They boast eco-friendly business practices and tasty treats. Their pops are 100% natural, 100% vegan and nearly all flavors …
