Wallingford and the Supply Chain

Alan Ness April 10, 2022 Comments are off

The world has been affected by Supply Chain shortages and that includes Wallingford.  I recently saw empty shelves at Bartell for toothpaste and face masks. Also, Trader Joe was short on eggs. See photos.

Please write in with the latest shortages and empty shelves that you have been seeing around the neighborhood.  Thanks!

WALLINGFORD AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Alan Ness April 6, 2022 11 Comments

Wallingford will not be able to avoid Climate Change.  There is a worldwide consensus by professionals who study climate that we are in the midst of a massive change.  If you disagree, let us know and share your evidence.

Most of us are aware that Greenhouse Gasses are emitted into the atmosphere from burning fossil fuels and other human activities. These gasses trap the sun’s heat and warm the atmosphere and the oceans.  Therefore we get heat increases like the Heat Dome last summer and increased forest fires.

When the oceans heat up, they give off more water vapor (humidity).  …

“Dumpling The Noodle” Expands!

Alan Ness April 2, 2022 1 Comment

A great local restaurant, Dumpling The Noodle, started business two months before the Covid lockdown.  But that did not stop them from developing a devoted following.  And now they have moved next door to the corner space at Wallingford Ave N and N 45th St.  They have sixteen tables and expanded food and beverages.

Alan Ness February 7, 2022 3 Comments

Sometimes I am surprised by the way that wild mammals have adapted to our urban streets. In particular, I feel a reflexive startle whenever I suddenly meet a raccoon in the middle of a sidewalk or see a trio of teenage raccoons in my little backyard, even though they’re always  respectfully masked. However, if you approach these fellow Wallyhood residents with interest and appropriate social distance, you will see how we all want the same things: a snack from Irwin’s, a chance to enjoy our family lives, and a way to safely get across North 40th.

One late spring evening …

Fuel Coffee Re-Opens

Alan Ness January 19, 2022 Comments are off

The Fuel Coffee House has re-opened for business. Located at 1705 N. 45th Street in Wallingford, the shop is one of three Fuel locations in the city and this one has undergone a beautiful transformation. It now has great spaces for both individuals and groups to gather over coffee and treats.  The co-owner, Danielle Hulton, is putting the finishing touches on a comfortable and modern redo. Hulton is also co-owner of Ada’s Technical Books on Capitol Hill, and she is bringing fiction and non-fiction books to the coffee house to browse and buy.

Fuel is now roasting its own coffee …
